Enrollment for Vail-area piano lessons under way

Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado – The Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival is now accepting applications for the next session of its after-school piano lessons, which begins in January.

Applications are due by Friday and can be downloaded at http://www.vailmusicfestival.org or call 970-827-4302 for an application.

The after-school piano classes provide beginning piano lessons as an affordable after-school alternative for children in grades two through seven. Students discover and explore music through the development of listening skills, eye/hand coordination, finger dexterity training, keyboard topography, fundamental music concepts and basic reading skills, all in a friendly small-class setting. The half-hour lessons cost $2 per person plus a one-time $8 booking fee.

Bravo! launched the program in the fall of 2009 with 30 students at two locations and two teachers. This year the program is expecting more than 100 students at six locations with four teachers.

Due to a shortage of piano instructors, a mentor program was established, with high school students studying with a seasoned teacher-mentor to learn the fundamentals of piano instruction. These understudies help teach the children during the piano classes.
