Even you can build a better bird house
Vail, CO, Colorado
The idea behind the Build a Better Birdhouse competition is that yes, even your birdhouse can be “green.” The Vail Symposium and Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability have joined forces for this years 2007 Healthy Homes Tour and Expo. New to the tour is the birdhouse competition. Along with amateur, professional and kid categories, there’s also a local “celebrity” category. It’s rumored that locals Rod and Beth Slifer, Tricia Swenson and Ryan Sutter will all try their hands at creating a winning birdhouse.
“We’ve invited local businesses and organizations to do themed houses ” like Holy Toledo, Bravo and The Gore Range Natural Science School.
The miniature creations will be judged on creativity, workmanship, functionality and use of green elements.
“The goal is to get the entire communities creativity involved, from our youngest to our most seasoned locals,” Vail Symposium director Fraidy Aber said.
The houses are due June 1 and will be exhibited at the Healthy Homes Expo from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. on June 16 at Brush Creek Elementary School in Eagle. If you really like a birdhouse you can even take it home ” all the birdhouses will be up for grabs in a silent auction during the expo. The proceeds will benefit the two non-profits ” the Symposium and the Alliance ” putting on the event.
