MINTURN -Minturn Middle School students learned Friday about Eagle County government from out-going commissioner, Michael Gallagher.

Gallagher spoke about the history of Eagle County, as well as how Eagle County government works. Gallagher also described a few of the larger services the county provides, like the ECO bus system.Gallagher explained that three elected commissioners represent the county.

Gallagher also talked about how state and county government are connected. “What I thought was most interesting and what stuck with students was that 65 percent of all residents are second-home residents,” says teacher Adam Johnson, who adds. “That means 35 percent of the population in Eagle County can vote.”

Eagle County government also hosts a Shadow Day each year for high school students. During this day, students work with people in all departments, including legal, transportation and administration.
