BEAVER CREEK – Sunday at the Vilar Center, the Academy Awarding winning movie “The Trip to Bountiful” comes to life on stage. This poignant story of aging widow Carrie Watts, who lives with her son and rigid daughter-in-law in a three-room flat in Houston, Texas, describes her fears of being an imposition on others. Mrs. Watts imagines that if she can return to her old home in the town of Bountiful, she will surely regain her strength, dignity and peace of mind.

Author Horton Foote has crafted a play of enormous emotional power using the simple things in life that move us. Foote came to national prominence with his screenplay for “To Kill a Mockingbird,” winning an Academy Award for his efforts. His second Oscar came for “Tender Mercies,” the story of a washed-up country singer who finds inspiration through the support of a young widow and her son. Foote has written over 40 plays and scripts and received numerous major awards, including his 2002 American Theatre Critics/Steinberg New Play Award for “The Carpetbagger’s Children.” Prior to the performance of “The Trip to Bountiful,” there will be a complimentary discussion lead by Director of the Vilar Center Kris Sabel and members of theater group.
