Faesslers host annual golf tournament and dinner

VAIL — Fine foods, dancing, golf and Sonnenalp Breast Center — these are a few of Rosana Faessler’s favorite things. On July 13, Rosana, who owns the Sonnenalp Hotel with her husband, Johannes, will host the 17th annual Scramble Against Cancer Golf Tournament, followed by a dinner of the finest seafood, meats, paellas, salads, breads and spirits, as well as treats from Bernie’s Infamous Dessert Room, all to benefit the latest in diagnostic breast equipment at Sonnenalp Breast Center.
A 17-year tradition, the Scramble Against Cancer is the Sonnenalp Foundation’s largest event. Fifty teams will compete at the Sonnenalp Golf Club in Singletree with shotgun start times of 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Entries are $400 per player or $1,600 per team. Dinner guests will enjoy food and dancing to the tunes of The Hip Replacements. And thanks to donations from the Swiss Chalet, Bully Ranch, Ludwig’s and Balata, tickets to the dinner are only $75 per person. Walk-ins are welcome, and the dinner is open to the public.
In the past 16 years, the golf tournament and dinner have raised $2 million for Sonnenalp Breast Center, an outpatient department of Vail Valley Medical Center which relies on philanthropy to purchase state-of-the-art technology and equipment, attract and retain top-tier physicians and staff, and fund a wide range of programs and services.
“Rosana and Johannes have unfailingly supported Sonnenalp Breast Center for many years,” said VVMC President and CEO Doris Kirchner. “This event is a true reflection of their generosity, fun-loving spirit and impeccable taste.”
Rosana was integral in the establishment of Sonnenalp Breast Center at Shaw Regional Cancer Center after her mother fought breast cancer and the two made countless trips out of state for her treatment.

“I made it my mission to bring high-quality breast screening and cancer treatment to our community,” she said.
Rosana’s mission and vision have been realized through Sonnenalp Breast Center, which provides the most advanced diagnostic technology for breast cancer detection. Since opening in 2002, Sonnenalp has identified breast cancer in more than 600 women in Eagle County. Funds from this year’s Scramble Against Cancer and dinner with the Faesslers will benefit the purchase of a GE Automated Whole Breast Ultrasound. An adjunct to mammography, whole breast ultrasound uses sound waves to take further images of the breast for breast cancer diagnosis. This technology, utilized for the more than 40 percent of women who have dense breast tissue, can find small cancers that mammography may miss.
Sonnenalp Breast Center has been on the forefront of breast diagnostics, becoming the first breast center in Eagle and Summit counties to offer breast ultrasound, digital mammography and 3-D mammography. Staffed by certified breast radiologists, Sonnenalp provides over 5,000 vital, and often life-saving, screenings, diagnostics and treatments each year.
