VAIL – One lucky local will drive away with a 2007 Volvo V50 as the final installment of the Street Beat free winter concert series, featuring local rockers Funkalicious, heats up the streets of Vail at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Funkalicious, comprised of members of favorite local groups Flux 5, Little Hercules and Great American Taxi, blend rock, funk and jazz for a unique and groovy sound that is sure to get the crowd moving.

“It’s such a great collaboration,” said Funkalicious member Scott Stoughton. “We don’t get to do this very often, we’re so happy to be part of this – it’s so exciting that the Vail Valley Foundation offered us this gig.”

Stoughton, along with the members of Little Hercules (Jeff Armistead, Cristian Basso, Scott Kable and Brian Loftus), Dave Laub of Flux 5 and DJ Peter Blick, make up the band – and he promises that the show will be a true end-of-season bash.

“We’re going to play some originals, and some covers,” Stoughton said. “We’ve got some really cool surprises for the show – it’s going to be a great party. We see it as a way to give back to the community after a great winter. It’s such a great way to end the season.”

Participate in The Longevity Project

The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.

And one local is going to end the season on an especially high note – with a brand new 2007 Volvo V50. Locals have had the opportunity to enter once at each Street Beat concert throughout the winter for the grand prize drawing for the car. Eagle, Lake Creek and Summit county residents with a valid local ID will have their final opportunity to register on Wednesday from 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m. Once the registration is closed at 7 p.m., a total of eight contestants will be drawn to participate in the Grand Prize Game, with one lucky local walking away with the car. Rules state that the local must be present in order to win, so the turnout for the evening is expected to be huge. The grand prize drawing for non-locals of a Volvo Vail return vacation with deluxe accommodations will also be held on Wednesday, though the recipient for that prize need not be present.

Funkalicious take the Street Beat stage at Checkpoint Charlie at 6 p.m. Parking in Vail Village is free of charge after 3 p.m.
