VAIL — Vail Village will host the final weekend of Oktoberfest starting Friday, with the return of Klement’s Bratwurst Eating Contests, adult keg bowling and adult stein lifting competitions, a Bavarian costume contest, yodeling, alpenhorn blowing, beverages from Hacker-Pschorr and Jagermeister and much more.

Things kick off Friday at noon with Friday Afternoon Club — oompah style — featuring live tunes from Walter’s Austrian Swiss Connection, followed by the Polka Chops Band and, of course, Helmut Fricker and the Rhinelanders Band. The Friday afternoon event will be honoring all active, inactive and retired military with one complimentary beer, and visitors are also invited to the Hacker-Pschorr Opening Ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, officially marking the start of Oktoberfest in Vail Village. At 7:30 p.m., Harmonious Junk will take the stage.

On Saturday, children will find lots on things to love in the kids’ area, from live entertainment to crafts, pretzel necklace making, photo opportunities and more. Adults can compete in keg bowling, where participants hurl a keg shell on wheels down the lane at a pyramid of empty kegs, or the stein-lifting competition, where competitors hold a full beer stein out from their body at shoulder level. The last person standing with arms outstretched will take home an Oktoberfest prize package.

The party continues into the night Saturday with a free concert from Schwing Daddy at the Checkpoint Charlie Stage from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., and visitors can return Sunday for more keg bowling, stein living, bratwurst eating and live music. There is no cost to participate in Oktoberfest contests, and competitors who wish to participate can sign up at the Oktoberfest token booth closest to the Oktoberfest stage at Checkpoint Charlie.
