Final Winter Solstice on Ice takes place Friday in Vail

VAIL – Vail Family Holidaze continues Friday and Saturday with more free holiday activities for families and children.Winter Solstice on Ice, which brings world-class ice skaters like World Champion Patrick Chan and 2010 U.S. National Champion and Olympian Rachel Flatt, to the heart of Vail Village to perform singles, pairs and group programs, will conclude today. The final Winter Solstice on Ice performance takes place on the ice in Solaris Plaza and begins at 5 p.m. Friday will also be the last opportunity for children to participate in Skate with the Stars during Vail Family Holidaze 2011. From 3:15 to 4 p.m. today, children are invited to join national and international ice-skating competitors as they share the ice at the Arrabelle at Vail Square and Solaris Plaza. Spaces are limited for Skate with the Stars, so those interested in participating are encouraged to register early at the skate rental shops at each rink. Consisting of a number of free, holiday-themed activities, the Kids Zone turns Vail Village and Lionshead into a winter wonderland. Children can pick up a Kids Zone map at any of the event stations, marked with candy cane striped poles, which will guide them through the entire Kids Zone. Children who visit eight of nine Kids Zone stations between Dec. 19 and 24 will receive a free Vail Family Holidaze prize. The Kids Zone will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. each day. Kids Zone activities include ornament making, snowman decorating, the Vail Arctic Express train rides presented by First Bank, fireside story time and a puppet theater at the Vail Public Library, s’more making, caroling karaoke, entertainers and more.Santa’s workshop, presented by the Vail Recreation District, will wrap up for the holiday season Friday. Free for children ages two to 10 and their families, Santa’s Workshop will take place in the Arrabelle at Vail Square today and includes pictures with Santa, children’s gift making, holiday treat making, ornament making and more.While out and about today, guests are encouraged to check out the Cadillac Experience in Solaris Plaza in Vail Village. At the Cadillac Experience, guests can get the latest information from Cadillac and have pictures taken with Santa from 1-3 p.m. On Saturday, children are invited to the base of the Eagle Bahn Gondola in Lionshead to enjoy the Kids After Dark Party from 6 to 8 p.m. The celebration will consist of activities and games complete with music, prizes and glow sticks. Vail Family Holidaze is the annual event for families and children surrounding the holiday season that includes holiday concerts, world-class ice skating performances, the new Kids Zone, New Year’s Eve activities and much, much more.
