GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” As part of a search that began in summer, Colorado Mountain College recently narrowed candidates for the next president to two finalists, according to a press release Tuesday.

Finalist Joe Forrester, Ph.D., is the president of the Community College of Beaver County in Pennsylvania. He’s previously worked for Colorado Mountain College for 10 years as the dean of Timberline Campus.

The other finalist, Stanley Jensen, Ph.D., is the founder and president of Leadership Enterprises Inc. in Iowa, a company that provides training in leadership, team building, process improvement training and strategic planning. He has also published four books on leadership and team building.

A screening committee, including faculty, administrators, two trustees, a student and community member, started with 48 applications, interviewed 11 candidates and then recommended five to the community college’s Board of Trustees, a press release said.

Last week, those five came to the community college for interviews. Now that two are left, the next step will be site visits to the workplaces of the finalists in about two weeks.

“The board tried to design a very inclusionary process,” said Doris Dewton, chairwoman of college’s board of trustees chair and the Eagle County representative.

“We’re pleased with the high-quality input we received from the college and its constituencies.”

The current president, Bob Spuhler, Ph.D., plans to retire June 30, when his contract ends. He has been with the college for 20 years ” half of the college’s existence ” and has overseen the seven campuses for the last five years.
