Fire destroys Dotsero residence on Tuesday
DOTSERO — A house fire Tuesday afternoon leveled a single-family home and resulted in minor injuries.
The fire broke out at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Firefighters and emergency personnel from nine agencies responded.
The afternoon wind spread the fire quickly, said Justin Kirkland, Gypsum fire chief. When firefighters arrived, the two bedroom log home was completely engulfed in flames.
“One of the challenges was that our first truck only had two people on it,” he said.
That’s due to the staff reductions after voters failed to pass a funding measure for the Gypsum fire department, Kirkland said.
The fire was accidental, although the cause is still being investigated, he said.
The two owners suffered minor injuries, Kirkland said.
The structure is being considered a complete loss, although fire fighters managed to save the contents in the basement.
The responding agencies were the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Gypsum Fire Protection District, Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, Eagle County Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting, Colorado State Patrol, Eagle River Fire Protection District, Eagle County Paramedic Services, Glenwood Springs Fire Department and Holy Cross Energy.
