Fire restrictions lifted in Eagle County
EAGLE COUNTY ” Sheriff Joseph Hoy and local fire chiefs have removed restrictions on open burning on all non-federal lands in Eagle County.
The restrictions were enacted June 16 due to dry conditions and high fire danger, which has dropped significantly, said Barry Smith, Eagle County’s director of emergency management.
Officials still want residents to take care when lighting fires because dry brush remains in the area and daytime temperatures may still reach the mid-80s.
To keep campfires from burning out of control, Smith said, they should be doused, stirred and doused. The fire area should be cold to the touch before it is abandoned.
