Fire to be set north of El Jebel
Vail, CO Colorado
EL JEBEL ” Firefighters today will begin setting a 160-acre fire in national forest on Basalt Mountain five miles north of El Jebel.
About 15 firefighters will burn a line around the perimeter of area where the fire will be ignited by hand on Friday.
The purpose of the fire is to clear out dead brush and shrubs, so new plants that feed wildfire and are less likely to burn can regrow.
Forest Service Road 524 may be closed for several hours on Friday. Campers along Forest Service Road 524 may be asked to move while the burn is conducted.
Hunters may also not be able to move freely about the area on Friday.
Participate in The Longevity Project
The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.
“There will be very little residual smoke,” said Assistant Fire Management Officer Lathan Johnson. “Plus, the animals will move back into the area once we are done burning.”
