Firefighters respond to Avon blaze

AVON, Colorado – Eagle River Fire District firefighters were summoned to the Westgate Building, 1060 West Beaver Creek Blvd., in Avon for a fire alarm at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters arrived to find the lobby and surrounding area charged with a significant amount of smoke. A first alarm was called, which brought an additional two engines and a ladder truck.

An electrical motor in the mechanical room was found to have caught fire. The fire was contained to the room where it started and the smoke was ventilated from the building. The fire resulted in about $1,000 in damage.

There was one injury to firefighter who suffered a minor cut on the hand. He was treated on the scene by Eagle County Ambulance District personnel.

Firefighters were on the scene for about one hour.
