Firefighters respond to blaze at Cordillera home
EDWARDS — A Cordillera home sustained significant damage during a Sunday evening fire.
At about 6 p.m., Eagle River Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of a structure fire on Saddle Ridge Road in Cordillera, above Edwards. Eagle County Sheriff’s Office deputies reported smoke and flames visible as they responded up Squaw Creek Road.
When firefighters arrived, the single-family home was “fully involved” in flames. Firefighters took up a defensive position to protect nearby residences. By 9 p.m., crews were able to bring the blaze under control.
The residence was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. The incident is still under investigation.
Vail Fire Department and Greater Eagle Fire Protection District also responded. The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Eagle County Paramedic Services, Vail Public Safety Communications Center, Holy Cross Energy, Source Gas, Vail V`alley Salvation Army and Eagle River Water & Sanitation District assisted with the incident.
