GYPSUM — A chimney fire in Gypsum on Friday left a home damaged.

At about 7:10 p.m., crews from Gypsum Fire Protection District were dispatched to the report of a fire at a single-family home on River View Road. Upon arrival, flames of about 4 to 6 feet in height were coming from the chimney area.

The initial crew on scene reported the chimney stack was fully involved and flames had spread from the attic to the adjacent roof. The crew attacked the fire from the outside and waited for the arrival of an engine from Eagle before they could attack the fire from the inside. The fire was knocked down quickly, and within 30 minutes crews had the blaze under control.

The fire occurred at the same time that crews were working a motor vehicle accident with injuries that closed Highway 6 at Cooley Mesa Road.
