Fires planned in Eagle Co

Daily Staff Report
Vail, CO Colorado

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” Fires will be set this fall in northern Eagle County.

A 560-acre burn will be set southeast of Burns, and a 1,200-acre fire will be set north of State Bridge. The fires will be set between now and the middle of October.

The fires should burn off old brush so new food can grow for animals. Burning away the old brush should also reduce the severity of any future wildfires in the area.

The fire three miles southeast of Burns is planned in mountain shrubs and pinyon-juniper on federal land. It’s the latest of several prescribed fires in this area over the past several years.

The other burn, planned one mile north of State Bridge on Yarmony Mountain, is the first burn in a multi-year project covering 2,396 acres. This burn will be primarily in sage and pinyon- juniper on federal land.
