First snow of season falls

Colorado’s high country, along the Interstate 70 corridor, is getting its first little taste of winter.

Nearly 2 inches of snow fell on Loveland Pass overnight Thursday, and some elevations above 10,000 feet in northern Colorado saw some morning snow Friday.

“This really is the main, first snow over the pass (this season),” said Jim Kalina, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco and Vail all reported seeing some light snow. Parts of the Interstate 70 corridor in the mountains, from the Eisenhower Tunnel to Vail Pass, were wet Friday morning from predawn snow that dusted the lanes.

Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park was closed Friday night because of snow.
