VAIL ” The season’s first winter storm is forecast to begin dumping snow on Vail and higher elevations late Saturday, the National Weather Service says.

A strong Pacific storm could bring between six and 10 inches of snow to the mountains of western Colorado.

Snow should begin after midnight Saturday at around 9,000 feet and a cold front will move in Sunday, dropping tempratures into the mid-30s.

By Sunday, snow levels will drop to about 8,000 feet, with widespread accumulation above 8,500 feet. Vail is located at 8,150 feet. Strong winds are likely to cause drifting and blowing snow.
