Flight Days soars into Eagle Friday through Sunday

What better way to celebrate Eagle’s favorite festival than to bring in one of the community’s favorite bands?

The Nacho Men — in their silver clad glory — will be back in town for Eagle Flight Days this year. The popular variety band will take center stage at Eagle Town Park on Friday as Flight Days kicks off for the weekend.

“We always get so many requests to bring in The Nacho Men, and they haven’t played at Flight Days for two years,” said event organizer Roxie Deane. “They are such a crowd favorite.”

The Nacho Men combine live dance music, costume changes, choreography and humor for a high energy, high fun show. The group has performed coast to coast in the U.S. and in Europe including Las Vegas casinos, luxury cruise ships and Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Flight Days marks one of the few times they venture to the Colorado high country each summer.

Opening for The Nacho Men on Friday night will be local band Harris and Lee. They will begin at 6 p.m. and The Nacho Men will take center stage at 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Eagle audiences will get their first taste of Syndicate, an eight-piece band that plays everything from the top 40 to 1940s classics.

“Syndicate is really popular on the Front Range, and we are really excited to see them perform,” said Deane. “They came very highly recommended.”

Syndicate will take the state at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Local band Already Gone is the opening act for Saturday night; they will begin playing at 6 p.m.

All the Flight Days fun

While the evening concerts anchor the celebration, Flight Days offers a full schedule of fun for all ages. From the baby contest and pet show that launch the event on Friday afternoon, to the kids talent show that winds up the action on Sunday afternoon, Eagle Flight Days offers something for all interests. Most activities take place at Eagle Town Park.

Here is a run down on what’s planned for the weekend:

FRIDAY

5 p.m. — Baby contest at Eagle Town Park. This contest is for babies age 2 and younger. Ribbons and prizes will be awarded in the following categories: best smile; best eyes; biggest dimples; best Western wear; chubbiest feet; best hat; best swim suit; most vocal; baby relative look alike; and best hair. 6 p.m. — Pet show at Eagle Town Park. Local kids are invited to bring their pets — anything furry, feathery, scaly or slimy. A slew of prizes will be awarded, including best costume. Contact host Castle Peak Veterinary at 970-328-5444.

6 to 8 p.m. — Music: Harris and Lee.

8:30 to 11 p.m. — Music: The Nacho Men.

SATURDAY

7 to 9 a.m. — Pancake breakfast at Eagle Town Park, presented by the Eagle Lions Club.

10 a.m. — Parade down Broadway. The theme is “A Night at the Museum.” Line-up begins at 9 a.m. on Fifth Street and judging will be at 9:30 a.m. This year’s parade grand marshal is the Eagle County Historical Society. 11 a.m. — Vail Precision Lawn Chair Brigade performance following the parade. Kids craft tent opens with free activities. Horseshoe tournament play begins, entry fee is $10. Silent auction begins. All activities planned at Eagle Town Park.

11:15 a.m. — Colorado VFW Band patriotic music at Eagle Town Park.

Noon — Heritage Recipe Bake-Off at Eagle Town Park. Provide enough for 100 small tastings. Serving supplies will be provided. Tasters will vote on first, second and third place trophies.

1 p.m. — Amazing Crazeum Race at Bull Pasture Park for ages 12 and older. Two-person teams will complete in an “Amazing Race” inspired contest. For information or to register teams, call 970-328-5277 or email sheryl@wecmrd.org.

2 to 4 p.m. — Music: Joe Walsh.

3 to 4:30 p.m. — Basketball Shoot-Out at Eagle Town Park. Register on site prior to competition start time. Prizes will be awarded.

4 to 5:30 p.m. — Karaoke. Sign up at the stage when the music begins.

6 to 8 p.m. — Live music: Already Gone.

8:30 to 11 p.m. — Live music: Syndicate.

SUNDAY

7:30 a.m. — Fun run start at Fourth and Broadway. Registration starts at 6:30 a.m. with a 7:30 a.m. start for 5K walk/run. Hosted by the Eagle Valley High School Foundation, the run honors the memory of Jake Brock. Cost is $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the event. There is also a special family registration option for $75. Registration forms are available at Eagle Town Hall, Eagle Pharmacy and Alpine Bank. Registration will be accepted up to 15 minutes prior to each scheduled event. All participants will receive an event T-shirt. 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. —Yoga in the Park at Eagle Town Park. Instructors will donate their time for the class, but donations will be accepted.
