Flood preparations get focus in Basalt
Vail, CO Colorado
BASALT, Colorado ” A public meeting will be held Wednesday to discuss the potential of flooding along the Roaring Fork River in Basalt.
Western Peak, the company that owns the Roaring Fork Mobile Home Park, will host the meeting. Basalt Fire Chief Scott Thompson will discuss emergency prepardeness plans that will be followed by his department, local law enforcement agencies and the town of Basalt.
The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Basalt Elementary School cafeteria. Spanish translation will be provided. There will be a question-and-answer period following the fire chief’s address.
The Roaring Fork Mobile Home Park and adjacent Pan and Fork Mobile Home Park are located along the river. They are protected by makeshift levees, but often threatened with flooding in high runoff years.
“Our office has received numerous calls in the past week from residents concerned for their safety” said David Fiore, managing partner of Wester Peak. “The question of flooding is always a concern at this location, but the concern has been exacerbated this year to do the increased snowpack. We feel it is our obligation to keep residents informed regarding the potential of flooding, of what emergency measures will be taken to protect them, and how they can help protect themselves.”
