"Food, Inc." will be shown at Avon library

AVON, Colorado –There will be a free screening of the Academy Award-nominated documentary, “Food, Inc.” at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Avon Public Library. “Food, Inc.” is the first in the library’s spring series of films that celebrate Earth Day.
In “Food, Inc.” (PG) filmmaker Robert Kenner seeks to show a part of the nation’s food industry that he calls “the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government’s regulatory agencies,”
He also focus on obesity, the corporations that run America’s food industry, the safety of food workers, the plight of the American farm and the environment.
The film features interviews with authors Eric Schlosser (“Fast Food Nation”) and Michael Pollan (“The Omnivore’s Dilemma” and “In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto”) and entrepreneurs such as Gary Hirshberg, founder of Stonyfield Farm, the world’s leading organic yogurt producer.
Food, Inc. kicks off a series of films in celebration of Earth Day. The Avon Public Library will also screen the Academy Award Winning Documentary “The Cove” (PG-13) on April 28 at 6 p.m., and the family-friendly film “Hoot” (PG), on May 12, at 6 p.m.
