‘Foos and Brews’ fundraiser is Friday in Avon

VAIL, Colorado – Foos and Brews, a benefit for the new nonprofit The Cycle Effect, will be held at the Westin Riverfront Resort and Spa March 8 from 7-10 p.m.

“Foosball, ping-pong, ladder ball, DJs and a veritable explosion of media and the senses will create the vibe for Vail’s first-ever ‘text only’ auction,” said Brett Donelson, founder of The Cycle Effect.

The organization’s mission is to enhance the lives of young women through mountain biking and to empower them through mentoring and education.

“Our goal is to make this first year for the girls like nothing ever seen in Vail,” Donelson said. “We will have 40 bikes, gear, coaching and mentoring to start a program of assisting girls in the valley build self-esteem, physical fitness skills, confidence and teamwork. Already, a number of sponsors including Liv/giant, Primal Wear, and Venture Sports have joined us to jump start the program. This fundraiser will be a magnificent opportunity for people to have a blast, bid on amazing auction items and help establish a program that has many years of great things to come. We’re stoked.”

Among auction items will be: VIP tickets and lodging to both the U.S. Open of golf and tennis, NCAA basketball Final Four tickets, a six-night trip to South Africa, lodging and airfare to the ESPY awards, ski and bike gear, and other locally donated items.

A $45 admission price includes apps from Cima, a signature cocktail from Restaurant Kelly Liken, wine, and beer sampling provided by Bonfire Brewery. All bidding will be done via texting, through personal cell phones, or with the help of staff on the night of the event.

There is also a chance to meet some of the Cycle Effect athletes, pre-order jerseys and start talking about how great the 2013 season is going to be.

The auction and foosball tournament begin at 7 p.m. and final items will be sold at 9:45 p.m.
