Former commissioner plans Senate campaign

CARBONDALE — Former Eagle County Commissioner Arn Menconi, who now describes himself as a “social justice advocate and activist,” will announce his candidacy for the U.S. Senate as a member of the Green Party on Monday, following the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade in Denver. Running and serving as a Democrat, Menconi served two terms as a commissioner from 2001-2009.
In his work as a commissioner, Menconi focused on early childhood development, affordable housing, sustainable growth management and new budget policies. He has served on numerous nonprofit community and statewide boards and has worked on community development initiatives that include long-term economic planning, affordable housing and early childhood development.
Menconi in 1993 founded the Snowboard Outreach Society, now known as SOS Outreach. Launched as a grassroots nonprofit which provides funding and activities for youth at risk, SOS Outreach was responsible for hundreds of underprivileged kids getting an introduction to an activity that would normally be beyond their reach.
Since the fall of 2014, Menconi has been volunteered for anti-war organization Code Pink, and he has volunteered for the National Bar Association to help draft legislation for issues on police brutality.
