Former FBI agent to give talk

WOLCOTT – On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, Larry Wansley, the managing director of corporate security for American Airlines, found himself responding to an emergency that changed the landscape of air travel in America. On Wednesday, Wansley will talk about the current state of Homeland Security at a Vail Symposium presentation to be held at Red Sky Ranch in Wolcott. Currently chief executive of Infinite Security, Wansley will discuss how he thinks American culture must adjust to combat the threat of terrorism. While at American Airlines, Wansley received the award for Aviation Security Employee of the Year. On Dec. 22, 2001, Flight 63 from Paris to Miami was the target of “shoe-bomber” terrorist Richard Reid. Reid’s plot was foiled by passengers and the flight crew. Wansley was an undercover FBI agent for 10 years, specializing in organized crime, white collar crime and public corruption investigations. Wansley wrote about his FBI caerer in his book, “FBI Undercover: The True Story of Special Agent Mandrake.”

Wansley also worked for the Dallas Cowboys as the first full-time player counselor in National Football League history, and later became director of team operations and vice president/general manager of the Texas Stadium Corporation. Wansley also worked for National Football League as director of counseling and security services for NFL Europe. He also served as security director for singer Whitney Houston’s first world tour.Wansley is on U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess’ Homeland Security Council, the U.S. State Department Overseas Security Council, the Center for Strategic and International Studies Homeland Security Advisory Group, and the Southwest Emergency Response Network Board of Directors.
