Vail, CO Colorado
Michael Edward Hanrahan

Michael Edward Hanrahan, a longtime Boulder area resident died on March 14.

Mike was 51 and had lived in recent years in the Vail Valley, where he owned Cuisine Catering and was a favorite chef of many luminaries ranging from former President Gerald Ford to Denver Broncos’ owner Pat Bowlen.

Mike is survived by his two teenage children, Torey and Jamee, and his wife, Nancy. His parents, Ruth and John, live in Pie Town, N.M. Hanrahan’s family is proud of his many accomplishments and will miss his crazy sense of humor.

In addition to being a talented and creative chef, Mike was the quintessential ski bum who annoyed his many friends with stories of skiing 100 days a season while still raising a family and working as a chef.

He was one of those people who knew everyone and had an infectious sense of humor that often made him seem many years younger than he was.

He went to school in Boulder, attending Centennial Junior High and Boulder High School. He was a graduate of Colorado Mountain College’s Glenwood Springs campus, where he first became infected with the importance of being a ski bum.

Unlike his many friends, Mike managed to maintain that status throughout his life and his children have been accomplished skiers and snowboarders since they could walk.

Mike was an avid Denver Broncos fan and one of his cherished possessions was a photo of him, Pat Bowlen and then-Broncos coach Dan Reeves taken late one night after Mike had prepared their dinner.

Most importantly, Mike was an adoring father who was proud of his children and the fact that they had been outskiing him since they were very young.

Mike’s memorial service is anticipated to be a large party where there will be many laughs at Mike’s expense, It will be held at 5:30 p.m., April 5, at the Beaver Creek Club next to the Cenntenial Chairlift at Beaver Creek ski area.

In lieu of flowers Mike’s family requests that a donation be made in his name to the Vail Valley Charitable Fund, where a fund has been set up to help his children.
