Four Avon town council seats open in November

The Avon Town Council will have four seats up for grabs in the November 7, 2006 election. The Council is the legislative and governing body of the Town and has the power and authority to adopt laws, ordinances, resolutions and rules as it deems necessary for the benefit of Avon and its residents. This seven-person board meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month for a work session in the afternoon and a regular meeting starting at 5:30 p.m. Each open seat will be elected from the town at-large to serve a four-year term and earn $500 per month.The following four council members seats are up for election: Mayor Ron Wolfe, Debbie Buckley, Mac McDevitt, and Brian Sipes. Buckley and McDevitt are term- limited by serving two consecutive terms and cannot run for re-election. Wolfe and Sipes must run for re-election if they wish to continue serving on the Council. To qualify to run for Council, you must be a citizen of the U.S., eighteen years of age or older on the date of the election, a qualified elector, and have resided within the Town of Avon for a minimum of one year preceding the election.If you are an Avon resident interested in becoming a public official and guiding Avon into the future, contact Town Clerk Patty McKenny for a nomination petition. Each candidate must acquire 10 signatures from registered Avon voters. Petitions will be available at the Town Clerks Office, Avon Municipal Building, 400 Benchmark Road, beginning Tuesday, August 8, 2006. The deadline for filing the petitions with the Avon Town Clerk is August 28, 2006. The November 7 election will be coordinated with the Eagle County Clerk & Recorders Office.
