Four running for three Minturn council seats

MINTURN, Colorado ” Minturn resident David Clapp has turned in a petition to the town to run for Minturn Town Council.

Clapp, a bartender at Chili Willy’s who has lived in Minturn since 1994, made an unsuccessful bid for a seat in 2006.

Matt Scherr, a Minturn resident and director of the Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability, is also running.

Town councilmen Jerry Bumgarner and George Brodin will run for reelection and Town Councilman Tom Sullivan will not. Town Councilwoman Shelley Bellm will run against incumbent Gordon “Hawkeye” Flaherty for mayor.

Four Minturn Town Council seats ” including the mayor’s ” are up for grabs in the April 8 election. Minturn residents elect a mayor every two years. Three councilors are elected to four-year terms every two years. Minturn does not have term limits.
