Fourth of July celebrations

Special to the DailyMinturn celebrates Independence Day today with a parade down Main Street at 6 p.m. followed by a barbecue picnic and a red, white and blue candlelight ceremony (in lieu of fireworks). Monday, Avon hosts the biggest fireworks display in the Rockies at 9:45 p.m. The celebration begins at 5 p.m. with food, craft vendors, a beer garden and live music by Little Hercules and Hazel Miller in Nottingham Park. The Blind Boys of Alabama perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday, the Vail America Days parade kicks off at 10 a.m. with street entertainment from noon-4 p.m. in Vail Village and Lionshead. A free Bravo! Patriotic Concert starts at 2 p.m. at Ford Amphitheater and fireworks at Golden Peak blast off at 9:30 p.m. The Lavay Smith and the Red Hot Skillet Lickers play a free concert on the backlawn of Beaver Creek from 5-6:30 p.m. followed by the Tommy Dorsey Band from 7-9 p.m. A fireworks display tops it all off at 9 p.m. Kids' ride through Eagle starting at 8:30 a.m. for a Fourth bike parade and a fireworks display at the Eagle Fairgrounds at 9:30 p.m.
