Fraudulent fundraiser tries to trick Gypsum business

GYPSUM, Colorado –A Gypsum business has received a prank call from a person claiming to be a representative of the “Gypsum Police Department,” which does not exist, the town says.
The unidentified caller was seeking donations for a fundraiser to help Gypsum businesses “keep the money locally.” Gypsum does not have its own police department and the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office is running no such fundraiser.
Citizens and business owners are cautioned to validate alleged “fundraisers” and “events” before making any kind of donation. Should you receive a fraudulent solicitation, please report the incident by calling dispatch at the Eagle County Sheriff’s Department, 970-479-2201.
Big snow expected to dump on Vail Valley through the weekend
