VAIL – Vail Family Holidaze continues this afternoon in Vail with a free family concert from essence in Solaris Plaza in Vail Village.

Singer-songwriter essence released three adult contemporary albums before her son was born. To get her son to complete everyday tasks (getting dressed, taking baths), the San Francisco vocalist chanted little ditties to him every day, and those songs eventually blossomed into full-fledged hits. Essence recorded those songs for her debut children’s album, “A Dog Named Moo.” The ukulele- and banjo-laced jams inspired the editors at Daily Candy to name it one of their top kids’ albums of 2011. Today’s free concert takes place at Solaris Plaza with music starting at 4 p.m.

The Vail Family Holidaze Kids Zone continues today and Monday with complimentary, holiday-themed activities for kids throughout Vail Village and Lionshead. Children can pick up a Kids Zone map at any of the event stations, marked with candy cane-striped poles, which will guide them through the entire Kids Zone. Children who visit all Kids Zone stations by Monday will receive a Vail Family Holidaze prize. The Kids Zone will be open from 3 to 5 p.m. each day through Monday. Kids Zone activities include the Vail Arctic Express train rides presented by Alpine Bank, Epic Elf Photos, Santa’s Workshop presented by the Vail Recreation District, the S’More Spot presented by Nature Valley, ornament making and more.
