Free family films in Vail Valley
VAIL, Colorado -Summer 2009 in Colorado’s Vail Valley marks the return of a beloved Vilar Performing Arts Center tradition: the Vilar Performing Arts Center Family Film Series. Starting next Wednesday, June 24 we’ll present four family films, on the big screen at the Vilar Center, for free. We originally priced each film at $3 for children and $5 for adults. But thanks to the generosity of several wonderful, local sponsors, we’ve waived this fee and will be holding these wonderful family evenings out for free! The series sponsor for these films is the Beaver Creek Merchants Association. We want to thank all of the BC Merchants for their continued support. We kick off the series this Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. with “Kung Fu Panda.” The series continues each consecutive Wednesday with “Hotel for Dogs,” “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” and “Bolt” finishing the season on July 15. Each evening will be enhanced with fun activities for the whole family! Almost as much fun as the films is the weekly costume contest. Prizes are awarded to those kids dressed in the best costume of their favorite character from that weeks movie. Prizes (also generously donated by Beaver Creek Merchants) include rodeo tickets, Blue Moose Pizza, and gift certificates for the bungee trampoline and mini golf.Additionally, each week will feature a movie-inspired activity in the lobby of the Vilar Center prior to the movie. On June 24, experience a martial arts demonstration beginning at 6 p.m., prior to all the “Kung Fu” fun of the movie at 6:30 p.m. On July 1, the theme of “Hotel for Dogs” inspired a visit from Mobile Dog Adoptions starting at 5:30 p.m., plus Dr. Susan Klein from Alpine Meadows Animal Clinic will be on hand to answer any dog care questions. July 8 will be highlighted by an arts and crafts night beginning at 5:30 p.m., challenging the entire family to “make your own jungle animal masks” prior to “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.” And the special pre-movie activities will conclude on July 15 with a Dog Training Demonstration by Mark Ruark of Wags and Whiskers beginning at 6 p.m. Food and beverage will be available for purchase at each movie. Admission is free, and seating is first-come, first-served. All films are rated PG, and further details, including run time, are available on the vilarpac.org Web site. The Vilar Center Family Film Series is offered in addition to the full summer lineup, with highlights including Blood, Sweat & Tears on July 2, Michael Bolton on Aug. 20 and Rick Springfield on Aug. 29. Check out the full lineup, buy tickets and read about the theater at vilarpac.org. We look forward to seeing you this summer at the Vilar Center for family fun and much, much more!
