Free family movies kick off today
BEAVER CREEK – From Johnny Depp to Gromit, the dog, this summer’s free family movie series at the Vilar Center for the Arts is as varied as their leading men.Today marks the first in the series with the 2006 Academy Award winner for Best Animated Film, “Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.” The evening gets under way at 6:30 p.m. at the Beaver Creek venue. As is tradition, each of the free family movies will be preceded by a kids’ costume contest. Mini movie buffs are encouraged to dress as their favorite movie characters, and few miss the chance to don their thematic frocks for a night out with mom and dad. Local merchants donate prizes for all participants.
The Vilar Center’s movie screen is 20 feet wide by 15 feet tall, so even if weary parents have watched the blockbusters dozens of times at home, the lure of of the big screen always offers a different view, series organizers said. Some sweet treats and bottled water will be for sale before the movie, and unlike other Vilar events, kids can snack on candy during the show.Admission to all summer family movies is free and no tickets are required. Summer parking in Beaver Creek Resort is also free and located just across the street from the Vilar Center on Avondale Lane.
