Free tire tread checks offered Saturday
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado – The Vail Police Department will be offering free tire tread checks from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Safeway parking lot in West Vail to help motorists determine if their tires are safe for winter driving. If new tires are needed, coupons will be available for discounts from participating tire stores in Eagle County, which are redeemable until Nov. 15.
Motor vehicles in Colorado are required to have a tire tread depth of more than 2/32 of an inch measured in any two tread grooves at three locations equally spaced around the circumference of the tire. During Saturday’s tread check, officers will use a tire tread depth meter to determine if the tires are safe. The safety check will also consist of an inspection of a vehicle’s lights and windshield wipers.
Additional vehicle safety checks are available from the Vail and Avon police departments between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the stations, where the discount coupons will be available for distribution as well. The Colorado State Patrol is also assisting with the awareness campaign.
