Freedom fighter

Daily Staff Report

I’ve heard it said: “One man’s terrorist is another man’s ‘freedom fighter’; these insurgents are really just freedom fighters!” Is that really true? Man, I hope not! The truth?n Freedom fighters do not kill children or blow up bombs in crowds.n Freedom fighters do not take hostages or cut their heads off.n Freedom fighters do not fly airplanes into buildings or hold grudges. n Freedom fighters do not worship false gods and prophets screaming “Kill the infidels! No one needs “freedom fighters” like this! Each of us has been created by God in our mother’s womb with the desire for freedom, the hope of something beyond ourselves and the gift of “choice.” In my life, because of my choices, I’ve often turned my freedom into a prison cell. I’m finally able to admit I need a freedom fighter to help plan my escape. Every bad decision I’ve made has torn my heart apart and hurt others. But with faithfulness and outrageous compassion, Jesus Christ came and set me free! He alone is the one true, honorable freedom fighter, who:n Puts our lives above his own with unconditional love.n Always puts grace and truth above opinion.n Teaches us how to soar as he fights for our personal freedom.n Encourages and builds up while never giving up or tearing down.Colossians 1:13 says, “He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of his son he loves, in whom we have redemption and forgiveness of sins.” Jesus Christ deemed your life more important than his own. He decided our freedom was of greater importance than his own welfare. The God of all creation allowed his son to be sacrificed for us so we can live free both on this planet and in eternity. So what hinders your freedom? Are you plagued by doubts or tight finances? Have you been hurt by someone? Have your past bad choices caught up with you? Are you a slave to comparing yourself to others? Is your image slipping? Just like you, I fight these battles every day; and yet, through difficult circumstances, my true freedom fighter is faithful to rescue me 100 percent of the time! Don’t confuse God’s love for you with how people treat you. Keep your eyes on Jesus. He never rejects and never gives up on us. Christ’s boundless compassion always brings total liberation! My own heart – indeed my life – is free today because of Jesus Christ. Every day, he comes quietly to my soul, weaving hope, freedom, and a promise of a new beginning. He will do the same for you. All you have to do is ask, and you never have to go back to prison again! For, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm then, and don’t let yourselves ever be burdened again by a yoke of slavery,” Galatians 5:1.Gary Wingo leads a Bible study meeting Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. in Edwards.Vail, Colorado
