Friends of Vail library meeting is Tuesday
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado – The town of Vail Public Library is hosting an organizational meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to re-establish a Friends of the Library organization. The meeting will be held in the library’s community room and will include light refreshments.
Town of Vail Librarian Lori Ann Barnes says a Friends organization will be beneficial in meeting the growing needs of the library.
“Our collection, programs and services are excellent, yet we aspire to do so much more and would love to have Friends assist us,” she said.
The library is in need of talented volunteers who have one to two hours to devote each month. Activities include planning and hosting cultural speakers and programs at the library, enriching and enhancing existing library services, assisting with the annual Book and Bake sale during the Fourth of July holiday and working to increase use of the library through public awareness.
In 2009, the library experienced substantial increases in its attendance and programming compared to the previous year, including:
• 146,099 users, a 4 percent increase.
• 89,116 items circulated, an 18 percent increase.
• 12,990 library card holders, 44 percent increase.
• 9,248 attendees at library programs, 80 percent increase.
The organizational Friends meeting will include an overview of current library services and programming plus the statewide Library Advocacy initiative. The discussion will be hosted by Barnes. As always, contributions to the Vail Public Library are tax deductible. Free book bags are available for gifts of $10 or more.
