Front Range cop shoots, kills pit bull

GREELEY, Colorado ” A pit bull that charged an Eaton police officer has been shot and killed, and authorities are looking for the dog’s owner.

Chief Randall Jacobson says police received a call about 9:30 a.m. Monday that a pit bull was roaming free.

The unnamed officer located the animal and tried to approach it, but Jacobson says the dog charged the officer and caused him to slip and fall on a patch of ice.

The dog jumped on top of the officer, who then fatally shot the animal.

Jacobson declined to release the officer’s name, but told The Greeley Tribune the officer acted within police protocol.

The officer was not hurt.
