Gabby’s gift giving: Beaver Creek girl helps families
Beaver Creek, CO Colorado
EDWARDS, Colorado ” Eagle Care Clinic patients were also graced by an unlikely Santa Claus.
Gabby Unicume, a 12-year-old from Beaver Creek, Colorado was at the clinic last week handing out toys and gift cards to families in the waiting room.
Gabby’s mother, Kim Unicume, said that each of her children pick a service project in the community, and visiting families at the clinic is Gabby’s.
“It feels really nice (to help out),” Gabby said. “And it’s fun to see their faces light up when they get the gifts, especially the children.”
The service is one that is much needed by many of the clinic’s patients, said pediatric nurse practitioner Diane Purse.
With a bad economy and many families out of jobs, the clinic has been fully booked and especially busy, she said.
Kim Unicume said that Gabby made another trip back to the clinic this year with more gifts because so many families were in need.
“We were told that there were several families that were really struggling and could use a hand,” Kim Unicume said. “So we went back a second time to try and help out where we could.”
Gabby presented the families with more gift cards to Wal-Mart, toys for the children, and cash to buy groceries and gifts for Christmas, she said.
And patients aren’t the only ones benefiting from Gabby’s generosity, Purse said ” the staff at the clinic are also encouraged.
“Sometimes the problems of the people we see are so overwhelming. It’s nice to have some help from the community,” she said.
