Special to the DailyThe Gates Residences at the base of Beaver Creek offer panoramic views of the Vail Valley.

AVON, Colorado ” In one unit at the Gates Residences, you’ll find the stacked blocks of a Jenga game, Trivial Pursuit cards and a Backgammon board laid out for guests to play on dark wooden tables.

In another unit, you’ll find a sauna, pool, hot tub and exercise equipment.

Near the front entrance, you’ll see a room full of warming racks for ski boots. If you’re the backcountry type ” just ask for complimentary snow shoes. Same for fly fishing equipment, binoculars or a picnic basket. A full-time concierge will be at your service.

Need a ride? You’ll have private shuttle service. And, of course, there are the two-, three- and four-bedroom residences, ranging from 1,346 square feet to 2,737, all with full kitchens and washers and dryers.

The Gates, nestled near the entrance of Beaver Creek, showed off its recently finished collection of 49 luxury condos Thursday at its grand opening. This site has been in various stages of development for years, known for numerous stops, starts and delays in construction, and changes in developers, spurring the impatience of residents and the town council.

Tim Barton, the primary partner in Dallas-based JMJ Holdings, says having it finally finished is a big milestone for the developers and the community.

“It follows our track record of always completing what we’re doing,” Barton said.

Barton says the idea is to combine a residential feel with club amenities. The units here will feel like homes, he said, but go downstairs, and there will be a continental breakfast or apres ski snacks waiting for you.

“It’s a place you can live in and call home all year around, but it has all the benefits of seasonal living, of luxury living,” Barton said.

Walk around the place, and you’ll see the luxury, and the prices reflect that. The smallest two-bedroom units are around $975,000, and a few of the three and four-bedrooms unit break $2 million.

“We’re looking for people who can appreciate what a refined lifestyle is, and for people who can afford it,” said Bob West with Hoffman-West Real Estate.

West said 34 units are open as of Thursday.

The Gates will likely be home to a mix of people ” some full-time residents, some two-month-a-year vacationers, and some renters, said Karri Willemssen, director of sales and marketing for Western Seasons, the Gates’ management company.
