Gay rights conference opens in Denver

DENVER, Colorado ” Thousands are expected in Denver for a gay-rights conference opening Wednesday.

The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force says more than 2,000 people are expected at the downtown Denver conference that runs through the weekend.

It is the largest gay-rights gathering since many met at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah earlier this month. Gay-rights supporters called for a boycott of some events at Sundance because Utah is home to some who gave money to support a California measure banning same-sex marriage. But Sundance went off pretty much as usual.

Organizers at this weekend’s conference will talk about future protests in response to ballot measures that affect gays and lesbians.
