In 2002 he was selected for the Grammy High School Big Band, presented with the “Level 1” award by the National Foundation for the Advancement for the Arts, attended the Vail Jazz Workshop, received the Shelley Manne Award for emerging young artists from the Los Angeles Jazz Society, was named a Presidential Scholar in the Arts and invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
In June 2004 he performed at Steinway Hall in New York and received a $15,000 scholarship from the Music for Youth Foundation. Along side his studies, Gerald finds time to play in various LA-area jazz venues.
