Gerrie Spinelli, of Eagle, 1926-2009
Eagle, CO Colorado
On Wednesday, Gerrie Spinelli of Eagle, Colorado died peacefully at her home.
Gerrie was a very talented chef, quilter, knitter and interior decorator. She and her husband, Vincent, collected antiques, cooked and traveled around the world their whole lives. The arts of the home were her passion, and she excelled at them.
Gerrie was born in New York City in 1926. She and her husband lived in Chappaqua, N.Y. until 2005 when they moved to Eagle to live close to their daughter, Donna Spinelli. Gerrie made many friends in the valley and she will be greatly missed by all.
She spent many hours volunteering to crochet blankets for children, and received an award from the Eagle County commissioners along with other seniors from the Eagle Senior Center. She formed a knitting group in Eagle, participated in a quilting group in Gypsum and was a member of Gardeners on the Go in Eagle.
A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Capitol Street in Eagle. Following the mass will be a reception at Gerrie’s home to honor her and her husband, Vincent Spinelli, who died in 2006.
Donations to a memorial fund to aid in the establishment of a dialysis treatment facility at the Shaw Center are requested in lieu of flowers. There are no dialysis facilities anywhere between Denver and Grand Junction. Dialysis is required three times a week for patients with kidney failure. Many patients who need dialysis are too sick to travel two hours each way, and it is a special hardship not to be close to friends and family during treatment.
Contributions may be sent to the Gerrie Spinelli Dialysis Center Fund at Wells Fargo Bank, PO Box 567, Eagle, CO 81631.
