Getting in with the twins
The bars have raised the bar.
The annual Bridge Street Pub Crawl, every Wednesday at 9 p.m., offers folks the chance to cruise the heart of Vail and win prizes.
“We get de-sensitized by everything that’s given away,” said Steve Kaufman of The Tap Room and Sanctuary. “But the bar has been raised with what we’re giving away. It’s been a little busier this year than the last couple years.”
Participating bars include Tongo’s, FuBar, Red Lion, The Club, Vendetta’s, Tap Room and Sanctuary. They take turns being the host venue, Sanctuary being the host today. To be eligible for the grand prizes, participants have to stop by each one and have their cards stamped. It’s not necessary to purchase anything.
A little after midnight, the host bar will begin giving out prizes, which include a trip to The Palms in Las Vegas – including airfare and lodging – a trip to the Jack Daniels distillery in Tennessee, weekend getaways for Nuggets and Avalanche, snowboards, kayaks, mountain bikes, a V.I.P party with the Coors Light Twins and a Vail and Beaver Creek restricted season pass.
“Vail is where the nightlife is,” said Kaufman. “We like to get all the new people coming into town and give them a place to socialize and meet people and learn that the nightlife is on Bridge Street. We’ve always felt that once we teach them that, they’ll come back.”
Though Bridge Street used to have a monopoly on the pub crawl – also known as the Freshman Mixer and Bridge Street Slalom in years past – Edwards has put its own pub crawl this season. How does Kaufman feel about that?
“It’s great to see development down valley, but the real nightlife is in Vail,” he said without a pause. “We’ve got public transportation, all the bars and restaurants are within walking distance, and the numbers. I hate to say bigger’s better, but if you’re looking for a place to party, this is the place.”
The Bridge Street Pub Crawl runs through November 19.
