Girl allegedly raped by stepfather
EDWARDS ” An Edwards man was arrested Monday and charged with raping his 15-year-old stepdaughter in late May, the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The names of all persons involved are being withheld to prevent identification of the alleged victim. The man, arrested on a warrant for felony sexual assault, posted $50,000 bail on Tuesday afternoon and was released from the Eagle County jail, according to jail employees.
The investigator, Deputy Hagen Kuhl, recommended to the District Attorney’s Office that the man, 33, be charged with a slightly different form of sexual assault as well as aggravated incest, according to Kuhl’s report.
The exact date of the alleged rape is unknown, but sometime in the last week of May, the man drug the girl into his bedroom, threw her onto a bed and asked her to take her clothes off, which she refused, Kuhl’s report says.
The man ripped the girl’s clothes off and forcefully raped her, and during the 10-minute encounter, the girl clawed, punched and kicked the man, Kuhl’s report says.
The girl shared what happened with her mother, who was gone at the time of the rape, Kuhl’s report says.
The mother offered to take the girl to a doctor for a medical examination, but the mother never took her; instead, the girl’s grandparents took her for an examination several weeks later when the girl visited them in Texas, Kuhl’s report says.
In the past, the man sexually assaulted the girl three times in other parts of Colorado, Kuhl’s report says.
The mother also was arrested Monday in connection with the incident on a warrant for “child abuse-cruelty toward a child,” Eagle County jail records show.
Kuhl recommended the mother be charged with “child abuse criminal negligence causing bodily injury” because she knew her daughter had been sexually assaulted multiple times and didn’t report the crimes, said Tanny McGinnis, spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.
The mother, 35, posted $5,000 bond on Monday and was released from the Eagle County jail, according jail employees.
