Give input on housing deal

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” Commissioners will discuss the $53-million sale of the county-owned Lake Creek Village apartments next Monday, and residents are invited to attend.

The county has been trying to sell the affordable-rental apartments in Edwards for about a year, and they want to start negotiating exclusively with Corum Realty Group, the company that currently manages the apartments.

Under the terms of the sale, the apartments would be deed-restricted, and rent would stay the same for the next five years. The money from the sale would go toward other affordable housing projects, such as buying land, paying for Gypsum’s Stratton Flats or going into the down-payment assistance program, said Alex Potente, managing director of the housing and development department.

Commissioners will discuss signing a “letter of intent” to work with Corum ” the letter would be non-binding, said County Attorney Bryan Treu.

“We want to make sure we’re inclusive and that the public has a chance to hear about it,” Commissioner Sara Fisher said. “We’ve had various meetings on the issue, even though some people have said we’ve done it quietly.”

Commissioner Arn Menconi said the sale is simply another solution to the affordable housing problem.

“I’ll look forward to seeing how many people show up,” he said.
