Glenwood Canyon wildfire breaks out
September 26, 2005
GLENWOOD SPRINGS ” A wildfire is spreading on the north side of Interstate-70, near the No Name Tunnels in Glenwood Canyon.
By Monday afternoon, it had burned about 20 acres around an area known as Cascade Creek west of the tunnels, which are the last in Glenwood Canyon on the way into Glenwood Springs, according to Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management.
One witness said the fire dislodged rocks that rolled onto a bike path, which was closed between No Name and the vapor caves.
Due to the fire, the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park was voluntarily evacuated. I-70 remains open in both directions.
About 50 firefighters from several agencies and an air tanker were battling the blaze Monday afternoon.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
