GLENWOOD SPRINGS ” A 73-year-old Gypsum man was killed Friday afternoon when the truck he was in ran off the road and rolled across the highway, the Colorado State Patrol reported.

Ramon Hermosillo-Nieto was in the passenger seat of a Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by Javier Diaz-Ayala, also from Gypsum. They were going westbound on state Highway 82 near Glenwood Springs when Diaz-Ayala lost control of the truck on the snowpacked road, State Patrol said.

The truck ran off the road, traveled up a steep embankment and rolled across the highway, coming to a stop on the passenger side.

A minivan going eastbound was unable to stop in time and slid into the roof of the truck.

Hermosillo-Nieto was pronounced dead at the scene. Diaz-Ayala was treated and released at Valley View Medical Center in Glenwood Springs. He is being held at Garfield County Jail. The minivan had minor damage, and the driver was not hurt.
