Glenwood Springs man dies in rollover crash
GARFIELD COUNTY — A Glenwood Springs man died in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Garfield County.
At about 1:59 a.m., the State Patrol was notified of the crash, which had occurred on Garfield County Road 117 near milepost 9 south of Glenwood Springs.
The 61-year-old man apparently lost control of the 1988 Jeep Wrangler he was driving, and the Jeep ran off the roadway and traveled down an embankment, rolling once, according to the State Patrol. The road was described as wet and slushy, and it was snowing at the time of the accident, police said.
The driver was ejected from the Jeep, and he was pronounced dead on scene, police said.
The identification of the driver is being withheld at this time pending the notification of his family.
Garfield County Road 117 runs north and south out of Glenwood Springs. This roadway is used mainly by motorists to access local residences in the area and to travel to the Sunlight Ski Resort.
