Glenwood Springs police looking for shooting suspect
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. ” Police were looking for a 19-year-old man suspected of shooting an officer on patrol last week near the airport.
Police identified the suspect Saturday as Anthony Villegas, whose last known address was in New Castle. They said he is also wanted on felony drug, failure to comply and aggravated motor vehicle theft warrants.
An officer, whose name wasn’t released, was shot in the chest while on patrol near the airport July 29. He was wearing a bulletproof vest and his injuries weren’t life-threatening.
Police said the officer was checking a storage area near the airport when he saw two men walking away from him and told them several times to stop. They said one of the men turned and shot several times at the officer, hitting him in the chest.
The officer returned fire, but wasn’t sure if he hit them.
Villegas is described as 5-foot-8 and 140 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
A $7,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest or indictment in the shooting.
