Glenwood teen dies, Gypsum teen seriously hurt in Rifle car accident
RIFLE — A Glenwood Springs teen is dead and a Gypsum teen is seriously injured after a one-vehicle accident Friday near Rifle.
A 17-year-old from Gypsum was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck eastbound on Interstate 70 just east of Rifle at about 11 p.m. when the car veered off the left side of the interstate into the median, the State Patrol said.
The car spun, tipped over and eventually came to rest on its roof, police said.
A passenger, a 15-year-old from the Glenwood Springs area, was ejected from the pickup truck, police said. He was transported from the crash scene by emergency personnel to the Grand River Hospital but died about one hour later at the hospital.
The driver was transported from the crash scene by emergency personnel to the Grand River Hospital in Rifle, where he was found to have sustained serious injuries.
The names of the driver and passenger are not being released as the crash remains under investigation.
