Global Mala Yoga for Peace in Vail Saturday

Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado – Vail joins the global yoga community this Saturday with Global Mala Yoga for Peace, a yoga practice that is held concurrently across all five continents to further the U.N. International Peace Day. The Yoga Studio at the Vail Athletic Club is hosting this free event for the fourth year at the Ford Amphitheater from 9am until 11:30am.

“This is a practice for anyone and everyone. It’s not about how flexible you are or how long you’ve been practicing yoga, we just want to unite more people than ever in a common goal of connection and community,” says Studio Coordinator Rachel Nelson, who will be teaching alongside Amy Baker of Dogma in Edwards, and Suzanne Oliver from The Sanctuary in Edwards: “We all have very different teaching styles so this will be a really fun, diverse and playful practice.”

Nelson said the Sanskrit word “mala” roughly translates as “sacred necklace” and the concept of the event is to create a “sacred necklace around the world.” Each individual event can be dedicated to raising funds for a chosen charity, and The Yoga Studio at the Vail Athletic Club will be collecting donations for the Bright Future Foundation at the event, an Eagle County organization dedicated to empowering victims of domestic violence.

This is an outdoor event; participants are advised to dress in layers, bring their own yoga mat and plenty of water. For more information call The Vail Athletic Club at 970-476-7960.
